S.S. ZEALANDIA (Melbourne)  -  WW2

A passenger ship converted to an Allied troopship during WW2. It served extensively around Australia, Malaya, and Timor, transporting troops for the Australian 8th Division. The vessel was sunk on 19 February 1942 during the initial Japanese air raid on Darwin.

Word has been received by Mr. M. Davern, of 12 Helen Street, West Ulverstone, that his son, Keith, was killed during an air raid at Darwin.
