S.S. LIMERICK (London, England) - WW1
S S Limerick was sunk on 28 May 1917 by torpedo fired by German submarine U-86 - approximately 140 nautical miles West by South of Bishop Rock. She was enroute from Sydney to London with frozen meat and general cargo.

Both Mrs. F. A. Whitehead, of Moffatt Lyon Streets, Ipswich, and Mrs. Jas. Millar, of Limestone and
Murphy Streets, Ipswich, are in receipt of communications from Townsville referring to the fact that Mr. Roy Neild, a son of Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Neild, had met with his death on May 28th, as a result of the torpedoing of a vessel. It might be mentioned that the deceased was the eldest son of' Mr and Mrs. R. A. Neild, and was 25 years of age. He was a marine engineer, and it was in that capacity that he was engaged in the vessel at the time she sank. A message to Mr. R. A. Neild, conveying the melancholy news, stated that at the time of the occurrence the deceased stood gallantly to his post.

The New Zealand-owned Limerick was part of a coastal convoy from Sydney to Brisbane when it was struck by a torpedo on Anzac Day in 1943, killing two crewmen.

Reported Missing
Mr. and Mrs. H. Wilmott, of Edgeroi, have received official news that their youngest son, John, aged 27 years, is missing, believed killed, when his ship was torpedoed and sunk off the coast of N.S.W.. Their late son was an officer of the Merchant Navy, and had recently visited his parents, and attended his sister's wedding.
He was born at Narrabri., Mrs. Willmott received an urgent telegram saying 'Farewell and' cheerio till me meet again,' on Saturday, April 24th before setting , out on his voyage and his ship was torpedoed and sunk by Jap. submarines a few days later. Mr. Willmott and family had prepared to come down to say farewell to their son before sailing, but owing to the shortage of Railway traffic staff, Mr. Willmott was unable to get relief, and could not make the journey, in time for them to see him.
