S.S. Rydal Hall was sunk on 1 December 1917 by torpedo fired by German submarine UC-75 - approximately 14 nautical miles East by South of the Royal Sovereign Light Vessel. She was en route from Calcutta to Dunkirk with a cargo of manganese ore.
