S.S. CLAN CAMPBELL (Glasgow) -  WW2

S.S. Clan Campbell was a 7,255 GRT steam cargo ship that was bombed by aircraft on 13 February 1942 at position 32° 22' N 24° 22' E and sunk after being bombed again on 23 March 1942 at a position 8 miles from Filfola Island near Malta on a bearing of 245°.
The vessel formed part of a convoy that left Alexandria for Malta on 20 March 1942 - the convoy was protected by a force of cuisers and destroyers. The weather on departure was thick and stormy but it cleared while the ships were still of Cyrenaica and they were sighted by enemy aircraft. These summoned a squadron of four Italian cruisers but these were driven off by the escorts. On 23 March Clan Campbell was struck by both bombs and torpedoes. - benjidog.co.uk
