S.S. SOUTHERN EMPRESS (Leith)  -  WW2

Southern Empress was a steam tanker that had been converted into a whale factory ship in 1928. She was sunk on 14 October 1942 by torpedoes fired by German submarine U-221

The master, 23 crew members, 20 DBS and four gunners from Southern Empress were lost.
