M.V. HAURAKI (London) - WW2
The MV Hauraki was captured 12 July 1942 by the Japanese enroute from Freemantle in Australia to Columbo, Ceylon (Sri Lanka). All 55 crewmen were taken to the Changi Prison (civilian) in Singapore.

Captain Albert William Creese, who served for 35 years with, the Union Steamship Co., died at Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital on Sunday. During the war, when skipper of the Hauraki, he was captured by the Japanese and subjected to the worst forms of brutality and torture. As a result of these beatings his health was seriously impaired, and on his return to Australia he was forced to enter Heidelberg Hospital, where his condition gradually failed. He is survived by a wife and a daughter, of Fellowes-street, Kew. The funeral will take place from Holy Trinity Church, Kew, at 1.15p.m. to-day, for Spring Vale crematorium.
