M.V. ABOSSO - WW2
M.V. Abosso was a motor vessel of 11,330 grt lost on 29 October 1942 in the North Atlantic at position 48° 30' N, 28° 50' W. Built as a passenger, mail and cargo ship, she was the flagship of Elder Dempster Lines. She had been converted into a Defensively Equipped Merchant Ship in WW2, carried 20 DEMS gunners in addition to her normal crew, and was put into service as a troop ship. Cause of loss was a torpedo fired by German submarine U-575. At the time of her loss she was enroute from Capetown to Liverpool carrying 210 passengers - 149 military and 61 civilians including 44 internees, 10 women with children and several distressed British seamen. - benjidog.co.uk
